  • Atari, the iconic interactive game developers, has announced the release of the Atari Sunnyvale. The entertainment company partnered with blockchain-based virtual reality gaming platform The Sandbox to release the experience in the metaverse.

Atari Sunnyvale will have game environments based on some of the classic games from the studio including ‘Crystal Castles’. Within the game, players will be able to explore the world and interact with each other as avatars based on iconic Atari characters.

The game studio’s blockchain initiative Atari X is leading the development of Sunnyvale experience in the metaverse.

“We are incredibly excited to share Atari Sunnyvale with The Sandbox community, and we know it will draw more Atari fans to the growing platform. I am particularly eager for people to experience the elaborate and wondrous environments based on our games that have been created by Sandbox partner studio, Metaworld Entertainments,” said Tyler Drewitz, Director of Atari X.

The gaming company is The Sandbox’s largest shareholder, and both entities will strengthen their partnership and continue to develop more metaverse experiences.

“The vision that the team at The Sandbox has, and the creativity and energy they bring to the project, makes them an ideal partner for Atari. We will continue to experiment and find new ways to bring programming to the open world, and look forward to bringing more experiences to players,” said Wade Rosen, the CEO of Atari.

Atari Sunnyvale will be launching as a part of The Sandbox Alpha Season 3.
